California Stewardship Alliance
Democracy starts at home.
Because the best decisions are made by the people who live with them.
Our purpose
California’s housing problems are local. The solutions should be too.
California has enacted more than 400 housing laws in the past eight years. Median prices have nearly doubled. Homeownership rates are flat. The top-down approach isn’t working — because housing challenges in San Diego aren’t the same as in Fresno, and what works in Marin won’t work in the Central Valley.
The California Stewardship Alliance is a statewide movement of residents, local leaders, and community organizations committed to a different approach: housing policy shaped by the people who live with it. We provide the strategies, research, and legal tools that make place-based solutions possible — and we’re building the civic infrastructure to make them last.
Our mission is practical: equip communities to create housing that’s livable, sustainable, and worthy of California’s future.
